In-vitro meat, meat grown in lab petri dishes rather than from livestock, is happening and we want to talk about what this means. Would you eat it? Come to the general meeting TOMORROW, MONDAY DECEMBER 5 @ 6:30 PM in KIMMEL 903 where we will be talking about alternative food production methods such as in vitro meat and hydroponics (growing crops without soil!), and the pros and cons of these technologies. in community agriculture news, we’re hosting a screening of the acclaimed film Urban Roots, this coming Thursday, Oct 13, from 8-10 PM in Kimmel 405. It’s a great film, about the revitalization of a Detroit community through urban agriculture. You’ll be in good company with good food.

On Saturday, we’re going to check out East New York Farms, an awesome urban farm project in Brooklyn!  Check it out at http://www.eastnewyorkfarms.org/
We have to arrive at 10AM, so we’re going to meet at 9 in front of Kimmel and all take the train together.  All you need is a train card!

There is an 11 person limit on our visit, so we’re requesting people RSVP to robert.raymond@nyu.edu to reserve your space.  If you can’t attend this visit, don’t worry because there will definitely be more  coming up!

A quick note about an great website we encourage you to check out: Ethikus.com. The idea is similar to Groupon or Livingsocial, except that Ethikus focuses solely on socially and environmentally ethical businesses in Lower Manhattan. Last semester our club won a $500 prize from them, which we are putting to good use in the garden. Definitely check out their website, sign up for e-mails, and take advantage of their deals. They’re also on facebook.

Also, just a reminder that our first official event will be held THIS Saturday, September 17th at 11AM in our garden at 1 Washington Square Village, behind Bobst on 3rd Street – (Go through the driveway marked “1” and our garden is on the right). We will be showing off our work from the spring and summer, doing some cleanup, and hopefully planting some hearty crops for the fall.

Following that, our next general meeting will be Monday, September 26th, at 6:30 in Kimmel Room 903. Hope to see you guys in the garden this weekend and later in the month!

This Saturday, April 30, more plants need to get into some outside coldframes. Theyre too big for inside and the sunshine will do them great good.

The main thing on the Agenda is E-board elections! If you plan on running for something, please email our president Christine (cej243@nyu.edu), if you haven’t already, and let her know. Also, you should plan a short little speech thing to let us know why you’d be a good e-board member. Other topics will be upcoming events, including the FUNDRAISER this wednesday. If anyone wants to help sell cupcakes there, then come to the meetin and let us know!

Also, I (Nikki the Treasurer) am planning on baking cookies for the meeting. Apple Oatmeal Cookies. Unless my life is mean to me, and then I will probably buy something not as exciting. But, the CHANCE of NikkiCookies being there should be enough of a reason to make you come. So come. If you don’t come, I will cry.
